Statement Doorknobs and Smart Locks Are In for 2020

Deadbolts, handlesets, exterior and interior doorknobs and other hardware accessories can often be the special detail that makes a house memorable. From providing peace of mind to adding style and flair, hardware is an important installation for home builders. That’s why we’re talking two big trends when it comes to what you choose for the homes you build.

Our brand partner Kwikset, which owns Baldwin and Weiser, can help you earn rebates on the newest styles and options.

Even locks are smart

Most people probably know someone who has a fancy front door system — from smart doorbells to smart locks, and it’s only going to get more pervasive as 2020 progresses. In fact, data from one national home builder shows their clients increased smart home appliance selection by 44 percent. The builder said their most popular devices includes Kwikset smart locks, in addition to Google’s video doorbell, which both promote safety and security.

Kwikset’s Halo Touch smart lock, being released soon, was also featured in Digital Trends’ round-up of the best smart locks from CES 2020.

Statement doorknobs are in

In addition to exterior doors, interior doorknobs and other accessories can really help to spruce up a space and make a home feel unique. And Architectural Digest’s Clever is emphasizing the importance of statement doorknobs and pulls for 2020. “I predict 2020 is the year those everyday necessities will finally steal the spotlight,” Sydney Wasserman, Clever’s special projects director, said.

And when designers picked the best-looking doorknobs for the Strategist, a New York magazine publication, Kwikset and Baldwin made the list multiple times — from Kwikset’s matte black option and Halifax door lever to Baldwin’s contemporary polished chrome and distinct crystal doorknob.
