Since retiring from Pulte Homes, Inc. (NYSE: PHM) in December 2001, Robert Burgess has been engaged as a senior advisor with Glencoe Capital, and most recently with Long Point Capital. His role with these private equity firms includes evaluating financial transactions and working with portfolio companies to improve operations.
Burgess joined Pulte Homes, Inc. in 1983 as senior vice president of corporate development. During his tenure with Pulte, he held the positions of division president, president and chief operating officer. From 1993 to 2001, Burgess served as the company's chairman and chief executive officer. Under his leadership, Pulte became the largest home builder in the United States, growing from $700 million in revenues to $7 billion, and was named the #1 Quality Builder by J.D. Powers and Associates. Today, the company operates in 43 markets in 25 states, as well as in Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Argentina.
Prior to Pulte, Burgess was partner in charge of management consulting services for Plante and Moran. He was also a consulting manager with Touche Ross & Co., and held various positions with General Electric (NYSE: GE).
Currently, Burgess serves on the board of directors of HomeSphere, Inc., Amerisure Companies, Strategic Equipment & Supply Corporation, Outdoor Seasons, Inc., and Savage Sports Corporation. He is also a member of the William Beaumont Hospital Board of Directors, the Michigan State University Foundation Board of Trustees, the Broad School of Management Alumni Board, and the Oakland Housing Board of Directors.
He holds a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University.
